The Best Damn Poll In The Land's 2010 Pre-Spring Top 25
Yeah, We know what you're thinking. "A Pre-Spring Poll, is that really necessary?" Well, when you are college football addicts like we are, you'll find any excuse to indulge in your addiction. This poll was strictly voluntary, and some of our members chose not to vote, and many of them are against preseason polls of any sort. The contingent that did vote did their homework and took this task very seriously. So with that, we proudly bring to you The Best Damn Poll In The Land's 2010 Pre-Spring Poll.

Alabama
Last years National Champion returns their version of the Dallas Cowboys "Triplets"...but Saban has made it "Quadruplets"...McElroy, Ingram, Jones, AND Richardson make the Alabama offense very deadly. But losing 9 starters on defense could be the chink in the Crimson Tide's Armor. Spring brings a top 5 recruiting class and back to back title hopes for Alabama. It's a difficult task. Is Alabama ready?

A "lighter" than normal class for the Buckeyes hasn't turned anyone off of them. I have heard many talking about a match up against Alabama for the title. Pryor needs to make that next step. It pretty much hinges on Pryor's development. Everything else is in place. Tressel has this team built solid from top to bottom.

Boise State
The Broncos return 21 starters from last years undefeated squad. Their recruiting class was nothing special...which is nothing new...yet Boise State has churned out consistently good teams. Lately, they have been putting out great teams. This years team may fall into the "great" category. The really good thing about Boise State's Spring Game, there's no conference schedule to bring them down.

Colt McCoy is gone, and so is Jordan Shipley, Earl Thomas, and Sergio Kindle. The Big 12 South is still the same though...a two horse race between the Sooners and the Longhorns...between Stoops and Brown. With a new quarterback under center, and several new faces in the starting line up, spring should be full of excitement and concern for the Longhorns. Can they repeat and make it back to the BCS title game?

Much like Terelle Pryor, Tyrod Taylor's development is key to the Hokies success in 2010. If he can become a down field presence along with his threat to run the football, the Hokies should be in good shape. Darren Evans returning from a horrific knee injury should make the Hokies running attack one of the deadliest in the country. Now, if they can just shake the inexplicable losses that plague them every year.

Florida
Life without Tim Tebow begins for the Gators. John Brantley takes the reigns of a Florida offense that had many questionable performances in 2009. There's a ton of talent in the wings, and the Gator's gaudy recruiting class will aid in the transition from Tebow to Brantley. The defense should be very sound. However, trips to Knoxville, Tuscaloosa, and Tallahassee may spoil the Gators season.

There are problems in Eugene. James and Masoli got in trouble, and the latter is gone for the season. Granted, there is still a ton of talent on this team, but this is a huge set back no matter how you look at it. This has taken the Ducks from overwhelming PAC 10 favorites and even some National Title talk...to now questioning their ability to even win the PAC 10.

After an incredible 2009 that included an Orange Bowl victory the Hawkeyes look to be contenders for the Big Ten Title in 2010. Stanzi, Robinson, Wegher, McNutt, Johnson-Koulianos, Sash and Clayborn are all back, but the Hawkeyes have some key losses as well. Fewer than 10 wins would be a disappointment in Iowa City.

The Huskers are back according to the voters. After an incredible defensive season in 2009 it appears that Bo Pelini has the "Blackshirts" back on in Lincoln. Can the Huskers score enough points to make them a legit top 10 team, and of course how big will the loss of Ndamukong Suh be?

TCU
The Horned Frogs look to be the class of the Mountain West once again. However, they were out recruited by rivals Utah and Brigham Young. Are they closing the gap on TCU? This class addressed TCU's runningback issues with kids like Ethan Grant and Matt Anderson. But will the offense be better? One thing is for sure, Dick Bumpas will have the defense ready to go for 2010.

After a season that saw 5 losses in Norman the voters have restored their faith in Bob Stoops. Landry Jones had a great Sun Bowl to end the season and he will be a key to the Sooners success. He has weapons to work with, but the Sooners lost a lot of production from the backfield Gerald McCoy is gone too, but OU has plenty of talent and the Big XII South doesn't appear to be as deep in 2010

The Badgers look to be one of the contenders for the Big Ten Title with John Clay and Scott Tolzien returning. UW will miss O'Brien Schofield and Garrett Graham for certain, but the Badgers should be very solid on both sides of the ball. Nick Toon is a playmaker and Lance Kendricks is a solid TE who killed Miami in the Badgers bowl victory. At this point it appears to be a 3 team race in the Big Ten.

There are a ton of expectations in Coral Gables as spring practice gets under way. A 16th ranked recruiting class is ushered in by Randy Shannon. That ranking is certainly not something the Canes are used to and there are rumblings down south. The defense stands to improve, if the offense can quit putting them in tight spots. Jaccory Harris really needs to quell the turnovers, for his and Randy Shannon's sake.

Lane Kiffin landed one of the best recruiting classes in 2010. It really was an amazing feat, since he took his dream job with only a few short weeks left in the recruiting season. Not to mention the possible NCCA sanctions and probation potentially looming. But USC reloaded, and could possibly be built for the long haul. Are we looking at the Trojan Dynasty returning?

Penn State
Joe Paterno readies the Nittany Lions for the 2010 season. This time there is no Bobby Bowden on his heals, so Penn State and Paterno will be under the magnifying glass for much of the season. Can they compete against the likes of Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin? That will be the big question. A #12 recruiting class which includes DE C.J.Olaniyan,. LB Kairi Fortt, and ATH Alex Kenney should help keep up with "The Jones".

Pittsburgh
The Panthers are early favorites to win the Big East in 2010. Cincinnati will be totally rebuilding, and the Panthers have fewer holes to fill than their rival West Virginia. Dion Lewis is back, and should be one of the early Heisman favorites. Spring practice will be the time to find out if Pitt can establish a vertical passing game and solidify the secondary.

The triple option gears up for spring in Atlanta. With very little buzz about a 43rd ranked recruiting class, there are more questions than answers. Will Nesbitt be able to perform up to expectations, especially with workhorse Dwyer gone? Can the defense reload and fill holes left by departures on that side of the ball? Paul Johnson will have to do his finest coaching job to date to enjoy the same success they had last season.

A new offensive coordinator and a #6 recruiting class has the gang in Baton Rouge excited about 2010. Spring brings hope that the Bayou Bengals haven't fallen further behind Alabama. The Tigers also have to contend with a rising Arkansas team, and a resurgent Auburn squad. The West will be wild in the SEC. Can Les Miles return the Tigers to the BCS title game...before he leaves for Michigan?

Arkansas
Ryan Mallett returns for his Senior year, and quite a few folks think that Arkansas can contend not only in the West, but for the SEC title itself. There will be a lot of proving to do for the Razorbacks, and improvement is needed to reach those lofty goals. The running game should be solid, but the defense and offensive line have glaring holes. It may be a little premature to dub the Razorbacks as "Crimson Tide Slayers."

With the problems in Eugene and the issues with USC, the Beavers enter spring as the potential big dog in the PAC 10. Mike Riley has done an excellent job of building a winner in Corvallis, and Beaver fans have to be happy that he is there. Spring will see if the Beavers can sharpen up the defense and put a little air under the ball on offense. Should be interesting in the state of Oregon over the next few months.

Cincinnati
After the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, Cincinnati should be on suicide watch. This team loses more than just its coach and its star players...it loses its identity, There has never been a more important Spring Practice in the Bearcats history, with Pitt and West Virginia looking very strong, and a new coach at Louisville, the Bearcats could be looking at a very rough 2010.

Kyle Whittingham is staying put for the time being, and there doesn't seem to be a drop off in talent for the Utes. They will still contend for the Mountain West Conference title, but are they ready to be a BCS buster again? The jury is till out, as all eyes in Utah will be on the Utes as spring practice starts. Well, all eyes except those belonging to BYU fans.

Auburn
Quite a few folks are drinking the Gene Chizik Kool Aid. Auburn had quite an impressive turnaround from 2008's forgettable season. Auburn even went to a bowl...and won. Now they have landed the #4 recruiting class in the country and may be vastly better than 2009. Solving the QB question could be easy this spring, but dethroning Alabama in the West still may be a year or so away.

BYU
Bronco Mendehall has the Cougars on the prowl for 2010. A solid recruiting class brings in quarterback Jake Heaps. Add in players like Unga, who could eclipse the 5000 yard career mark, Jacobsen, Apo, and Chambers, and BYU looks to be very explosive and balanced on offense. For the Cougars to dethrone TCU as MWC champ, the defense will have to vastly improve.

Mr. Saturday Night himself, C.J. Spiller, is gone. But the Clemson Tigers will press on. Dabo Sweeny pulled in a top 20 recruiting class, and the Tigers return the core of their team for 2010. Dabo has made many forget about Tommy Bowden and his blunders, but can the Tigers restore Death Valley and stake their claim to the ACC?
