Roger Has Gone Too @#$%ing Far

http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2006/08/08/PH2006080800953.jpgThose looking for a list in this edition are going to be disappointed. Rarely do I do this, but I feel this whole Roger Goodell thing needs to be addressed. Don't worry, The Greek will still have plenty of things chocked full in the following to piss you off, bring horrible mental imagery to light, or both.

Roger Goodell has lost his fucking mind.

Now, before you think I am some Al Sharpton of the internet, running to the aid of every thug that has done wrong, or support guys like Rae Carruth (even though he saved us a parking spot or two at the Mall during Christmas shopping season). I get what Roger is trying to do. "Protecting the Shield", as he calls, is indeed an admirable pursuit. Reigning some of these guys in is a good thing. It really is. But his current comments about Hall of Fame criteria and player behavior off the field causes me great concern:

"I do believe that it's more than just how you conduct yourself on the field. I believe very firmly that it's how you conduct yourself on and off the field as a member of the National Football League.  That's part of your contribution to the game."

Roger, you just "jumped the shark" my friend.

The only criteria is on the field performance. Period. End of story. But don't listen to me, listen to Pete Fierle, Digital Media and Communications Manager of the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

"The only criteria for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame are a nominee's achievements and contributions as a player, coach, or contributor in professional football in the United States of America."

http://www.topnews.in/light/files/Gary-Glitter2.jpgThere you go Roger. There's the elephant in the room. The Pro Football Hall of Fame does not care if Tom Brady fucks goats and sells young Asian boys to Gary Glitter (Gary Glitter reference #144), as long as he keeps winning, he's getting a bronze bust in Canton.

It's not called "The Pro Football Hall of Morality". If it were, my boy Michael Irvin would not be there, but he'd have a bust in the "Snorting Lines of Colombian Bam Bam Off of Hooker's Asses" Hall of Fame. What would you have them do Roger? Take Lawrence Taylor out of the Hall of Fame because he's made some poor choices? We are talking about a man that played a game with a broken foot. (Sure, he may have been in a cocaine stupor, but what the Hell). A guy who was so dedicated to the football that he did not let his drug addiction interfere with his game. A guy who was such a team player, that he showed up to a team meeting in handcuffs because they lost the keys during a freaky snort and fuck party and he did not want to let the team down by not being at the meeting on time. That's dedication. Would you have us yank Orinthal James Simpson out of the Hall because we all THINK he slaughtered his ex wife and current boy toy like a prize pig and a Christmas turkey. I am sorry, but when he wasn't busy committing armed robbery, he was indeed combing every country club in America looking for their killers. Aside from all that, OJ changed the way defenses tried to stop the run. I think that contribution out weighs felony double murder and armed robbery.

Keep to suspending QB's for screwing drunk co-eds because you are sexually frustrated. It's okay too, because we live in a country where we punish a man for killing some dogs harder than the one who killed a human in a crosswalk. But don't you dare tell us that the Hall of Fame criteria should include what they do off the field. That is utter bullshit. If this were to be applied to all Hall of Fames, then The Baseball Hall of Fame would be damned near empty. Could you imagine if we had electronic media of today back then?

We would have seen headlines like "Babe with 7 DUI" or "Cobb Assaults Porter, Calls him "Blue Gum". Yeah, that place would be empty.

Which reminds me:

Bud Selig, you piece of dog excrement, let Pete in to the Hall. Just as a player, he didn't gamble on baseball as a player and he never tanked a game. And if he did, then he should be in the Hall based on his acting skills alone because Charlie Hustle never took a damned play off.
