Why bother with a game preview which promises to be a beating of epic proportions?
The simple answer: This is John Brantley's coming out party.
Tim Tebow is gone, and the buzz around the college football world is that Florida won't be the same. Those folks would be correct, because Florida will not be the same. They will be even harder to defend.
Don't get me wrong, the Red Hawks and Coach Mike Haywood aren't exactly the ultimate litmus test, ok, maybe if you are Eastern Michigan, but certainly not Florida. However, this game is very important for the future of Florida football for the next few years. It will be time to see if Brantley is all the Gator fans say he is, and the Nation will get a little preview of the monstrous recruiting class of Urban Meyer.
What to expect for Florida:
We will see John Brantley throw the ball around 30 times. Chris Rainey will be the "go to" guy playing in the slot. It will be interesting to see how this speedster adjusts to what has now become the "Harvin Position". Also, expect to see a wide variety of runningbacks to see action, namely Gillisie and Brown, especially in the second half when the game will indeed be far out of reach for the Red Hawks. The offensive line is banged up, and the talk of moving Mike Pouncey to the edge from center has gained momentum, so the snap should be very interesting to watch. Omarius Hines at tight end will be giving Gator fans fond memories of Cornelius Ingram. Jordan Reed, who was moved from quarterback to tight end, will see some time in the "Wild Gator" formation. Do not be surprised to see Reed throw the ball down field a few times. Later in the game, Trey Burton may run some option offense, and Tyler Murphy may get into the act, showing off his skills that have impressed the coaching staff since spring. On the defensive side of the ball, look for Sharrif Floyd, Dom Easley, and Ronald Powell to get some time in the rotation on the defensive line. These fabulous freshmen will definitely make an impact for the future of the Gator defense. Freshmen Matt Elam will be flying around and destroying any receiver who dares to try and catch a pass in his backfield. Janoris Jenkins will be locking down his side of the secondary, along with Will Hill and Ahmad Black. It is going to be a long day for the Red Hawks.
What to expect for Miami:
A lot of pain. Even though they made some improvements on offense toward the end of the season, Miami is just not in the same league as Florida. They may find some early success trying to confuse some of the younger Florida defenders, and those may come in the form of a big play or two, like a blown coverage, or a misdirection play. Those will be few and far between, and this game will be out of hand early for the Red Hawks. Miami's defense will have a long day too, their only help coming in the form of a makeshift offensive line. More than likely, they'll be chasing Florida's receivers and runningbacks, watching the scoreboard short out as the Gators roll to victory. Then there's the heat. They may be defeated by the humidity alone before the Gators even get a chance to get a hold of them.
