"Well congrats to Tennessee for hanging on to a couple of our recruits. But we got the important ones."
That was Lane Kiffin's "tweet" as National Signing Day concluded with USC landing Seantrel Henderson in the biggest coups of the 2010 recruiting season. Seantrel's signing should have been met with envy and applause. Instead, it is met with anger and accusations, and Kiffin's mouth once again keeps flapping.
He may be the most classless human being on the face of the Earth. Lane draws more negative attention than Nancy Pelosi on the beach, in a bikini, sans the 8lbs of make up.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
Our lead staff writer and Conference Chaos guru TeddyDupay said it best:
"It's amazing how little tact some people have. Had Kiffin said THIS, he might be looked at differently...
"I wanna start out by saying that I love Tennessee. I love the people
here, the passion of the fan base, and the kids on this team. That
being said, when I took this job, I was not foreseeing my dream job
opening. I'm a west coast kid. I went to school in California. I got
my start in California. I met my wife in California. We have family
out there. We all have dream jobs, and for most of us, it's not what
we're doing right at this moment. Even if we're in "dream job #2", we
know that if #1 came along, we'd leave where we are right now and go to
that pipe dream. For me, that's what I'm doing. I truly wish this job
might not have opened until later, because I love this university and
I think once I'm gone, the passion of the fans and players here will
keep Tennessee at the top of the SEC where they belong. Tennessee is
bigger than one coach. I regret to acknowledge that I am leaving to be
the head coach at Southern California today, only one year after I took
this position. I intended to be here for the long haul, but this is
something I've always coveted. It's a chance to realize my ultimate
dream. I wish Tennessee all the success in the world now that I'm
gone, and I wish the fan base nothing but the best, because that's what
they gave me. To the recruits who are committed to this program, I
suggest you still consider attending this fine university to continue
your education, both on and off the field. Tennessee is bigger than
me. You all will find that out as you come here and succeed. God
Bless and I'll be pulling for you from afar."
He says that, all is different. Now, he looks like a sniveling ass."
Amen Teddy.
Where's Monte in all of this? I mean, he has listened to his son stumble through 14 months at Tennessee with his gums flapping like Betty Jo at the beauty parlor, and Monte hasn't said a word about Lane's behavior? To me, if Monte doesn't correct his son, I will lose all respect for Monte, as the rest of the Nation should.
Kiffin's classless act may be a learned trait. Hanging out with shiftless Ed "The Domestic Violence Don" Orgeron (see Miami Public Records) may be rubbing off. Ed's reported poaching of Tennessee recruits on his way out the door to USC
didn’t get the proper attention. “It’s been done before,” Tom Lemming
said. “It’s not illegal, it’s unethical.”
If things stay the course, Lane Kiffin may become the most hated coach in all of football. He's giving Buddy Ryan a run for his money right now.
He may even be the first coach punched in a post game mid field handshake.
