NON-BCS CRYING NEVER ENDS

Non-AQ. Top 10. Week 9.

Non-AQ

TOP 10

Week TEN

The second version of the Non-AQ Top 10 has no changes at the top but some real shuffling in the middle.  Central Florida makes a move to up this week and into the Top 25 in the regular polls as well.  There is clear separation between the Top 2 and everyone else as we saw with TCU and Boise’s wins last week.  Note that there are 5 teams here in the Top 25 while no Big East team and only 1 ACC team are currently represented.

You have to wonder why the Non-AQ can’t get an AQ when the ACC and Big East have TWO AQ’s.  Guess we’ll chalk that up as one of those things that make you go….hmmmm???

  1. TCU (10-0)…The Horned Frogs stay atop the poll as their defense leads the way.  I have been hyping their defense for weeks now and they put on a display on the road at Utah.  47-7??  Wow, that my friend’s is a statement.  You may not want them to be the best team in the country, but in my opinion, they are.  TCU is hosting an improving San Diego State team this week and I have a feeling it will be another routine blowout.

  1. Boise State (8-0)…The Broncos continued their normal routine of destroying opponents, especially in Boise.  Hawaii was the latest victim.  Kellen Moore is my Heisman leader to date, he threw for 500 yards this week.  I really believe the kid is clutch, we saw it on the road against ACC leader Virginia Tech, but he doesn’t have the opportunity to show it often.  Boise heads upstate to Idaho on Friday Night for what could be a blood bath in the Kibbie Dome.

  1. Utah (8-1)…I am sure the Utes are embarrassed, but keep in mind the Utes are off to the AQ greener pastures and TCU has a chip on their shoulder about that.  You want to leave our conference?  Well don’t let the door hit you on the way out…biaatch!!  Utah is still a solid team and better get over this loss quick because they have a trip to Notre Dame this week, a game the Irish most likely must win to make a Bowl.  I may actually watch NBC this week.

  1. Nevada (8-1)…The Wolfpack head to Fresno for what should be a really good game except it won’t be over until after the bars let out.  LATE NIGHT WAC FOOTBALL!!!  I won’t be surprised if Fresno can win this game, they should be hyped up with a ranked team coming into town.

  1. Central Florida (7-2)…the Knight’s have been rolling downhill of late.  They are ranked for the first time in program history and it’s really attributed to their true freshmen QB Jeff Godfrey.  Since Godfrey became the full time starter, UCF has an added dimension of mobility.  He throws a really good deep ball as well.  Personally, I think UCF’s defense is overrated, but considering they will most likely have home field advantage for the CUSA championship game, they should be heading to the Liberty Bowl.  We’ll see how they handle the success this week when they host Southern Miss.

  1. Navy (6-3)…I don’t want to talk about it…but I have to, it’s part of my therapy.  The Middies converted 4 third quarter turnovers by ECU in their territory into 27 points and…literally, ran away by scoring 76 points.  They had the option humming and it was as pretty as the rainbow that hovered over the stadium.  Navy cancelled the scheduled flyover and, apparently, utilized that remaining personnel.  They were pissed because of getting down 24-0 to Duke in the first half the week before and pounding a weak, hurt, inexperienced ECU defense was their mission.  I expect Navy to win out, they are heading to the Poinsettia Bowl.

  1. Hawaii (7-3)…those trips to the mainland for the Rainbow Warriors can be tricky.  Trips to Boise are just flat out awful.  Makes you want to punch someone, right Oregon?  Thankfully for them, unless something changes, Hawaii won’t have to head to Boise anymore.  I expect Hawaii to win out from here on their way to hosting the Hawaii Bowl.

  1. San Diego State (7-2)…Brady Hoke has them learning how to win.  It’s not pretty, but it’s all about the “w”.  Unfortunately the Aztecs schedule gets really hard, heading to TCU this week and then hosting Utah next week.  I look for them to drop from the poll, but they have made strides this year.  Let’s see how they represent during Bowl Season.

  1. Northern Illinois (7-2)…The MAC represents in the poll.  The Huskies have manhandled the conference to date and are headed toward a showdown with Toledo at home on Tuesday November 9th where both teams sit at 5-0 in the conference.  This might be the de facto MAC championship.

  1. Tulsa (6-3)…the Golden Hurricane is my surprise in the poll this week.  They sport the 7th ranked offense and utilityman Demarius Johnson.  CUSA West is still up for grabs and they head to Houston with the loser pretty much out of it.  It should be another high scoring affair but I think Tulsa just has more experience to pull it out late.
